Don’t Let the Flu Ruin Your Holiday Season
U.S. HealthWorks Reminds People to Get Flu Shot As Traditional Peak of Flu Season Approaches

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--When the holidays come this year, will you be left sore and achy as you fight the flu?

“Now is the time to take action.”

While the push for people to get flu shots began a few months ago, the time when the flu traditionally impacts the most people is yet to come, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“When you feel the first aches and pains of the flu, it is too late to get the vaccine,” said Dr. Leonard Okun, National Medical Director for U.S. HealthWorks. “The sooner you get your flu shot, the longer you will gain the protection that flu shots offer. The flu is one ‘gift’ you won’t want to receive this holiday season.”

U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group, a leading operator of occupational healthcare and urgent care centers, offers flu vaccinations at its 171 clinics and work-site locations around the country. U.S. HealthWorks also visits businesses and organizations to provide on-site flu vaccinations to employers with 25 or more employees.

“Many people intended to get flu shots earlier this year, but for whatever reason put it off,” Dr. Okun said. “Now is the time to take action.”

Seasonal flu vaccines protect against the three influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. The viruses in the vaccine can change each year based on international surveillance and scientists’ estimations about which types and strains of viruses will circulate in a given year. About two weeks after vaccination, antibodies that provide protection against the influenza viruses in the vaccine develop in the body.
