| The Sallie Mae Fund Announces $10,000 Grant to United Way Flood Relief Fund |
WILKES-BARRE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, announced a $10,000 grant to the United Way of Wyoming Valley to help with urgent community needs in the wake of historic flooding last month. Thousands of area residents were affected when the Susquehanna River overflowed its banks, the worst flooding in more than three decades.

Many of the social service agencies in the Northeastern Pennsylvania community have experienced an overwhelming demand for assistance requests from area residents impacted by the flood. Through a grant process, United Way’s Flood Relief Fund will be available to all local charitable nonprofit organizations. A Community Impact Committee will review the requests and aid will be distributed as quickly as possible to meet the most urgent and critical of needs in the Wyoming Valley.
