The Loss Executives Association was founded over seventy years ago to provide a forum for discussion, study and consideration of common loss adjustment problems with the belief that a better understanding of such problems would lead to mutually acceptable solutions. The depth and diversity of the LEAís membership, one which includes not only insurance company personnel, but also independent adjusters, attorneys, accountants, engineers and salvors, has been the foundation of the Associationís success.
From the initiative and commitment of the founders and subsequent leaders, the organization has grown to its present membership strength, all of whom contribute to share and extend the precepts articulated in the Associationís Constitution over a half century ago. The history of the LEA is distinguished and dynamic. Through its officers, committees and general membership meetings, it has indeed fulfilled the expectations of the founders by constantly providing direction and education in all facets of the Property Insurance Loss Adjusting Field.
Over the years, the LEA has sponsored numerous seminars and programs covering the entire spectrum of proper handling of arson and fraud cases, concurrent causation and toxic waste removal. A recent endeavor, and perhaps one of the most illustrious, was the sole sponsorship of the annual National Forum for Property Loss Professionals, an intense three day seminar facilitating shared learning through group discussion of the most current and volatile issues facing the property loss arena.
Most recently, the LEA fully endowed a scholarship at the College of Insurance. While the history of the LEA has been one of organization and growth, the future will be one of challenge. To meet that challenge, the LEA will continue to find and support new opportunities for its members to exchange ideas, engage in dialogue and together seek solutions to issues that, more than ever, dramatically affect the entire economic culture of todayís world.
